Unemployed SOS-How it all started...
Our group was formed through many years of working together at a Credit Union in Southern California. Between the 16 of us that were laid off on December 12th, 2008 we have close to 200 years experience in the Credit Union.
Because we already had a bond, it was easy for us to band together to give each other support and share experiences during this time. Our first breakfast meeting was January 8th. It felt good to have someone to share our feelings and fears with.
We hope that you read our stories, look at the resources we have found, and share with us any information that you think would be good for us to add to the pages you find here. We just want you to know that you are not alone, if you don’t have a support group like we have, that we are here to lend you a hand.
Best of luck and our prayers are with each and every one of you.

WEBSITE GOODBYE LETTER- HOW DO WE END? At the beginning we came together to help each other and to try to understand what had just happened. We then set up the website, because we had hoped to help others with information as well as emotional support. After the website was up and running, we began the networking for the unemployed. There was not a great need for the networking, however we have met and chatted with a lot of wonderful people. There were many people that came into our lives that we will never forget or will we ever be able to repay them for their services or their emotional support that they have given us. There are people that we have met along the way that we were able to help as well. We all believe in passing it forward and that is what we set out to do. Our final days for networking will end at the end of the year and will be closing the website in March of 2010. December 12, it will be 1 year and it has been a hard road. It has been much harder for some of us and it will even get harder for others as time passes. One year seems to be a long time and at other times it seems like yesterday. We have all had our ups and down, for some of us it was a blessing that gave us time with our families at a time of need. For others, it has been a time for us to try to sort out our emotions. There were some of us that had lost a family member and others that have cared for members of the family that were and are still very ill. We have had new births in the group as well as members of the family going off to war, to fight for our freedom. After one year of being laid off, we had only one person that started a job in July, one going back to school and the rest of us are still looking for employment. If you are reading this, all that we can say is don’t give up and most of all believe in yourself. I know that some people felt being laid off was being fired from a job that they failed at. Remember it is not you that failed, but it is the management that failed you. Keep your chin up and heads high because this too shall pass. As life goes on, we have started to pick up the pieces and moveing forward with our lives. No matter what happens to our future, we will always be there for each other. Thank you, The Sisterhood of Support
